What is experiential learning?
Experiential learning is an engaged learning process whereby students "learn by doing" and by reflecting on the experience. Experiential learning activities can include, but are not limited to, hands-on laboratory experiments, internships, practicums, field exercises, study abroad, undergraduate research, and studio performances.
Philosophy Club
Students can enroll in PHIL 1950: Philosophy Club and receive one semester hour of credit for attending philosophy club discussions (and/or Owl of Minerva film screenings and/or departmental colloquia) and writing a brief ICON discussion post on each.
Philosophy internships
At the start of the academic year and subject to available funding, the Philosophy Department hires four undergraduate interns to help with the Owl of Minerva, the Philosophy Club, light research assistance, and Hawkeye Visit Days.
When we offer internships, the stipend is $1,000 per semester, for around 3-5 hours per week. A call for applications is sent to all philosophy majors and EPP majors in January when funding is available for that year.

Competitors included teams from Harvard University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Georgia, and others. At the end of the day, Iowa’s Ethics Bowl team placed 6th overall and bested teams from Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Iowa State University, and others.
